Awkward space for a baby safety gate, any ideas?
I have a really awkward space in my hallway, its open plan and has two steps down to my livingroom with wooden banisters, and a standard safety gate wont fit, the opening is about the same size but because the banister is shaped we cannot get a gate to fit, anyone else had this problem or know of a solution?

I need ideas for baby safety on screen doors.?
My son is 18 months old and we have a latch that keeps the door shut, but now he is tall enough to reach the door handle it isnt a knob it is a handle that goes across about 2 inches Well we have been keeping the big door open because it is summer. I need some ideas on how I can keep the screen door shut, if there is a latch or something on the market when I can stop him from opening the screen door all the way. Thank you

i was just looking at baby monitors online and saw one i havent seen before...it had with it a sensor pad which you put under the babys mattress and this monitors the breathing and heart beat, and if the baby stops breathing an alarm sounds.. the pad by looks of it is about the size of a computer mouse pad or maybe slightly bigger. My question is has anyone had one of these monitors and did it work correctly? do u think the're safe?
Please help! Am I being unreasonable about baby safety?
Hi, im 22 and i first time mum to be living in Germany, and my question is do you think its unreasonable to disallow your newborn child into a house that is not baby safe? My husbands parents are kind of expecting to be able to have the baby for afternoons in their own house rather then coming down to our granny flat down stairs to see the baby . However at the present point i am really concerned about the lack of general health and safety in their house, its a hayfever haven There are hundreds of bottles of chemicals just lying around the place, even in areas where they prepare food. Not to mention the dangerous objects laying around the baby could get hold of, the dirty cat food bowls that sit around for weeks before being washed, the cartons of fresh milk that sit out all day in the warm, the cat hair that is never vacuumed from the sofa, dust sits everywhere in the lounge room my hands burn just from touching their laundry or bathroom from the amount of chemicals used in them. And their cooking standards ie not mixing raw meats ETC. still shock me Don't get me wrong, im no way an uptight, ritualistic, clean freak, and i realize that people from different countries do things different I'm originally from Australia , BUT i do expect a little bit cleanliness around the house and chemicals if one must use them at least put away in a safe place if there is a baby around. And I dont want to stop my husbands parents from having the baby, but the health and safety of the house makes me really anxious, and would rather not unnecessarily expose the baby to chemicals.I was a nanny for quite a while before i was pregnant so im not completely naive as his parents like to think i am, but im really afraid to say something. Maybe im over reacting completely...? Either way none of the houses i worked in as a nanny, or my mother own house ever operated like this one. Should i say something?Any opinions on this would be really appreciated. Many thanks and im sorry this got so long o
A few questions about SIDS and baby safety in general?
A question a very ignorant one, if you saw it has just got me thinking about the thing that is of course the worst nightmare for us parents, so thought I'd ask a couple of things. When does the risk of SIDS go away completely? Does it ever? What are the chances of SIDS in a 10 month old, and over? Does anybody have the actual statistics? If a parent was fortunate enough to find their baby in the crucial moments after they stopped breathing, what could that parent do? Can anybody explain to me how to resuscitate a baby child if they stopped breathing? Also, not related to SIDS, but if a baby chokes, is it correct to bend them over and hit them hard on the back until the object flies out? Can anybody give me more information on this? Is it ever worth taking the seconds to call an ambulance if this happens, or by the time the ambulance got there would it be too late?I'm just always paranoid I don't know enough about health and safety. I think I will see if I can take a course on it in my area. But any info anybody has about anything related to this in the meantime, will be much appreciated

Baby safety?
Where can I get some info on baby safety. My son just started scooting and also pulling himself around the room with his arms when he is on his tummy. He's grabbing on to anything he can find. I need to baby proof my home and don't want to miss anything. He is also going to start solids in a few weeks. I want to make sure I know what to do in case he chokes or something.
