Does anyone know how those email scams work?
I don't know if you get those emails spam along the lines of some rich guy died and left a lot of money without a will or next of kin....blah blah blah....Would you like a share of the millions of dollars? if so, send me your name, address, phone number...etc.Obviously it's identity theft...probably from some guy in an internet cafe in Nigeria. My question is, how do they steal your identity with info you can get anywhere. Name, address, phone number can all be stolen from anywhere really if you think about it dropped mail, friends on Facebook, store clerks ask for your phone number, anywhere They don't ask for social security or credit card info, so what do these scammers do differently to get to your more sensitive info?

How do email scams work?
Every day I delete about 20 emails coming from as many countries. The senders all want to give me money. Some are widows of warlords, despots, presidents or ministers. Some are managers or banks wishing to divert funds from some dead account holder. Some claim that they traced my 'roots' and I was the lost descendent of a very rich person. So, all of them want to give me money. When I reply them to send a thousand dollars pounds as a starting point, they never reply The question is how do these scams work? Do they think us morons to be taken in? Leave alone that, what do the scamsters gain by getting our personal details like email, phone number etc..?

I'd advertised for a room wanted on Craigslist and they sent me a convincing email asking me to house sit for them. I didn't 'get' the scam at first but now they want my name and address so they can send me a check to pay off their security company. I'm not sure what happens next or how they get their money from the scam but I just wondered who do I report it to?? If there is anyone? I have their IP address and know they are in Lagos, Nigeria. PS I didn't give them my address

Any way to report email scams?
I've never been hit up with scams before and have been using yahoo for almost 9 years. Now, I go check out my spam folder and I have 2 apparently popular scams sent to me because I googled them. I got the Western Union scam offering me 500,000 USD I knew right off hand that was a scam because I heard about the western union scams. I got one from " Patrick Chan" from a bank in Hong Kong offering 12.5 million and since I'd never heard of that one, I googled and yeah..no suprise it was a scam as well He seems to use a lot of different email accounts but they all have his name just various numbers after. Any way I can try to report these?I know how to use Google, but thanks. I am kind of looking for experienced answers from people who have went through this and did something about it.

Where do you report email scams, so that they'll actually get caught?
I replied to an ad about renting an apartment, and they claimed to be christian missionaries away to West Africa, who wish to rent their apartment for Charity purposes.I researched the name they gave, and I came across a website that had his name, as well as fake emails other people have received that were almost identicle to mine.He still replies to me when I write and ask him questions about it. Im basically playing along so he dont disappear, or realize I know hes a fake.......It makes me so angry, What should I do?Wheres the scam?? Hm...Maybe the part where I found an identicle email that I received, on a website that claims other people have receieved the SAME email, a few small details are changed. Its definitely not legitimate, I cheskced the apartment he had 'for rent' and it was a house with people living in it. He said he was in Africa, so....
